Fair Trade at Betterfelt
In our opinion, business should be fair
From the beginning, Betterfelt has embraced the whole value chain and and its twin goals were to make great products while providing a fair outcome to all of its employees. Betterfelt owns its production facility together with our Nepali partner Sabina Matangi so we can ensure that our business is operating fairly and sustainably. We are committed to Fair Trade as our mission and value people and the planet over profits. While Fair Trade generally means higher production costs, it does not necessarily mean higher prices for consumers as we are being careful with other costs and are also ready to accept lower profit margins. These are choices we have made and our hope is that they will also matter to our customers.
We are proud of our status as a certified Fair Trade Importer.
Definition of Fair Trade
“Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers – especially in the South."
Certified organizations have a clear commitment to Fair Trade as the principal core of their mission. They, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade.
Fair Trade is more than just trading:
- It proves that greater justice in world trade is possible.
- It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first.
- It is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis.
